Quest 64 is maligned as a terrible game; I don't agree.
It has an unintuitive growth system, aiming spells can be rough, and you can wall early on if you ignore build hints from NPCs and the manual. It's also unfinished, dungeons turning into a series of linear "tubes" ending in boss fights at around the half way mark. It has stuff against it.
It's also really unique, with a well-functioning flexible build system and a cool action-combat system somewhat reminiscent of Kirby's Great Cave Offensive RPG stuff. You have a ton of options for building out a character that will almost always get there in the end. You can also choose how you grow: either through combat or by scouring the world for spirits to level up your magic; or both if you want to be OP.
There's barely any story, the game is unfinished, most of the dungeons are hallways, and if you build wrong you may get stuck in the grind zone. On the other hand it's charming and smooth to play and progress in once you get how it works. I wonder what could have been if it'd been actually finished.
