What's Going On

This is a simple page following the /now page format to give a quick rundown of things I'm focusing on or doing. It's more for myself as a focusing aid but also can be useful to check out to see what I'm streaming, working on, playing, reading, etc.

📡 Streaming: Dragon Quest IV

I'm playing the Nintendo DS version as part of a push to finish DQ4 and DQ5 before the new Dragon Quest Monsters comes out, as it's focused around DQ5.

🎮 Playing: Chorus

A weird little space dogfighter I got for US$3 on a Steam sale. It plays something like Star Fox all range mode stuff, but has a... really weird and kind of poorly written, voice acted, and paced plot to it. Nevertheless I find it interesting where it's going.

I'm about half way done at this point. The game is starting to introduce mechanics I fear will get in the way of the tight dogfighting game loop...

📺 Watching: The Practice

I binge watch The Practice about once a year. Seems time is up to do it this year. I've never found a legal comedy-drama like this, where most of the focus is on the brass tacks of the case and the ethical questions raised in the course of trial.

⏱️ Speedrunning: Hachiemon

I got Hachiemon into Licenseathon 2026, so I have to derust it. I'm not aiming for WR competitive here. I just want to put down a solid deathless 30-31 minute run I think.

⏱️ Speedrunning: A Single Fallen Feather (paused)

An OHRRPGCE game where you build a party of four harpies of varying classes and go save the world. Very Final Fantasy, very short and cute. I have a 2 hour speedrun in it right now and can probably trim some more off that with some better execution.

The developer is dropping hints that a remastered version is coming so this is somewhat on hold; or at least not entirely seriously focused on right now til I learn more.

It's my intent to have this as a submission to RPG Limit Break 2027.

🗓️ Event: Licenseathon 2026

Licenseathon is in July. This is a weekend long speedrun marathon purely of licensed games like the McDonalds games, Cool Spot, TV show games, etc etc. I'm providing technical support, video transit servers, software, and moral support to the event. They're collecting donations for the Transgender Law Center.

🗓️ Event: Big Bad Game-a-thon 2026

BBG 2026 is coming. It's a weekend long speedrun marathon of jank/kusoge/bakage that's been running for 10 years now. I have some setup and chair-person work to do for that, on top of preparing a special secret run to submit for it. The event is going to run off my tech stack for video handling and I'm pretty much de facto in charge of it now and days.

Submissions are open through July; I already have mine in.

🚧 Building: A New Speedrun Community

Inspired by SGDQ 2026, I'm laying the foundation for a new retro speedrun group with a hope to have a marathon somewhere around the turn of the year. It's going to focus on some slice of the 8/16 bit console world and be an inclusive take on former console-specific groups like Best of NES.
